The final tournament of the Apex Legends Global Series is just days away. The grueling 18 month series will end with a massive event featuring North America's 40 best teams. Over the past week, we've previewed the four groups that teams are divided into for the first stage. You can read our detailed thoughts, predicted team compositions, and more about all the teams in the articles linked below. Now it is time to combine all of the competitors into one power ranking to see how the groups stack up against each other.

Rankings are always controversial and somewhat subjective. We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments about squads we're underrating or teams that are way too high on the list. Rather than putting up just a list, we want to provide a little more insight on how the teams breakdown.

Below our rankings are divided into three tiers.

NRG, the top overall team, is the start of the Locked In Tier. Competitors in the Locked In Tier should feel comfortable about making the finals unless they perform much worse than recent performances. It would be weird to see a finals lobby without these guys.

12 teams made the top tier so, there are eight hypothetical slots left in the finals. We've identified 16 teams in the Fighting for Finals Tier that could take those spots. Obviously, #13-20 are our favorites to make it through, but their odds are not as sure as the Locked in Tier. Teams in that group of eight are also dark horses that can even vie for a title with an out of the ordinary performance. Anyone #21-28, the latter half of the Fighting for Finals Tier, can slightly exceed expectations and successfully book a ticket to the last day. If anyone ranked #13-20 slips up a bit, it's likely someone in the #21-28 will take the spot, but their odds at a trophy are very slim.

The twelve squads in the final tier have a small chance to advance past the group stage. Don't count them out though. In a battle royale, rng plays a big factor and anyone can win. The Tough to Advance Tier is the least exciting of the bunch.

A large part of the Championship will play out during the group stage, so it is important to note which teams are placed in the same group because they will play each other all three days. The ranking below is exactly the same as above, but this time we've color-coded the teams to easily identify what group they are in.

  1. NRG (Group B)

  2. TSM (Group A)

  3. Team Liquid (Group D)

  4. Aim Assist

  5. CLG

  6. Complexity (Group C)

  7. Cloud 9

  8. Sentinels

  9. Spacestation Gaming

  10. Renegades

  11. HRN

  12. XSET

  13. Charolette Phoenix

  14. 2 Brains 1 Controller

  15. TSS

  16. ESA Black (MST)

  17. Bottom 20

  18. Ranked is Harder

  19. ESA White (Farmboys)

  20. Absolute Monarchy

  21. My Little Phony

  22. Honey Bunches of Ceryal

  23. ESA Red (Team Superior)

  24. Content

  25. Obey Alliance

  26. SMILE

  27. Flash Point

  28. Dudes Night Out

  29. Wallie Catchers

  30. Lonely Fans

  31. Lazarus (DWT)

  32. Team XD

  33. AMV

  34. FYP

  35. ESA Blue (BSC)

  36. KSB

  37. Kanaka's Pets

  38. Letter E

  39. Pubstars

  40. We Want LAN

Looking at how the groups are spread out reveals a few interesting things. Group C (blue) has big gap between the top three teams (Complexity, SSG, and HRN) and the rest of the lobby. They need to take advantage of this slight edge. Group B (yellow) is centralized in the middle of the ranking with five teams #15-23. When B and C face off on the last day, NRG could be line for a huge gain.

Group A (red) in well balanced in the upper half, but almost nonexistent in the mid-table. Group A has the most squads in the bottom 10 with 4. Group D (green) is very top heavy with 5 teams in the top 13. In fact, when Groups A and D play on day three, 9 of our top 14 teams will be in the lobby. Those could prove to be some of the best games in the group stage especially as squads fight for their last chance to get to the final lobby.

The official groups were seeded by Respawn using ALGS Points. These points were accumulated over the whole 18 months of competition and reward players who have been competing since the beginning of the long series. Because of that, our rankings here at Scanning the Beacon (STB) do differ from ALGS rankings. Once again the order has not changed on the list below; we've just added teams' ALGS rank next to their name to look at the discrepancies.

Our most overrated teams against ALGS ranking are Content and Absolute Monarchy both 14 places higher. Content is so much lower in ALGS because they are a brand new team; we've ranked them 24th based upon their LCQ victory. Absolute Monarchy been around much longer, but in GLL Masters they had their best tournament ever which propelled them to 20th. TSS (+11), Flash Point, Farmboys, and XSET (all +8) also displayed significant improvement in recent competitions leading to a boost.

Our most underrated squads are We Want LAN (-18) and ESA Blue (-16). Both of these aberrations are due to roster issues outlined in our Group C Preview. Smile (-12) and the Letter E (-10) dropped due to uncertainty around how the new teams will play.

For the final comparison we'll see how STB ranking stack up against Minustempo's finals projections. Minus organized the ALPS practices the past weekends and developed an ELO rating for all the Championship teams. He expects the final lobby to mirror the picture below in alphabetical order.

Minus includes My Little Phony (21st in our STB rankings), ESA Green aka Honey Bunches of Ceryal (STB 22nd), and Wallie Catchers (STB 29th). He excludes 2 Brains 1 Controller (STB 14th), ESA White aka Farmboys (STB 19th), and Absolute Monarchy (STB 20th). Aside from Wallie Catchers and 2B1C, STB rankings are just slightly off the ALPS projection. The biggest takeaway from this comparison is that 2B1C have underperformed expectations in scrims and Wallie Catchers have way overperformed expectations. Hopefully Minus rings true because our predictions are so similar! Regardless of who advances, we're excited to see an incredible tournament.
